Choose one repeatable task
Start with a low-risk workflow, such as sending a test form to a task list. Record the source, action and desired outcome. Check whether the required action is available for each connection; a logo in an integration directory does not prove that every feature is supported.
Make a step fail deliberately
Use an invalid test field or a temporarily unreachable destination. Check whether you can identify the error, fix it and rerun the workflow without duplicate results. A polished successful demonstration often does not show this.
Understand the billing unit
A task, operation or execution can mean something different in each product. Include multiple steps, repetitions and checks. Base your estimate on your own scenario, then compare the same monthly volume across providers.
Assign administration and access
Decide who receives alerts and who may change the connection. Self-hosting also requires maintenance and recovery. Use limited permissions and test data during evaluation. An automation that nobody manages can fail unnoticed.
